Thailand received 32.97 million foreign tourists in 2025. They brought the country about AED 171 billion, and together with domestic trips by Thais themselves tourism generated roughly AED 300 billion. Even so, the backbone of the Thai economy is not tourism but goods exports.
How many tourists did the country receive in 2025?
32,970,000 foreign visitors and about AED 171 billion in tourism receipts — the figures a practitioner of the Thai market gave at our closed session for brokers. He quoted the amounts in dirhams.
For comparison he took Dubai, where spending per visitor is incomparably higher: AED 209 billion. Thailand wins on the number of guests and the length of the trip.

How much do Thais themselves travel?
In 2025 residents made 202,370,000 domestic trips. Thais rarely move abroad to live, but they travel a great deal around their own country.
Domestic tourism added roughly another AED 130 billion to receipts, taking the total to about AED 300 billion. That matters for the rental market: the guest in a resort unit is not always a foreigner.
What happens to the economy if tourists stop coming?
The country will not grind to a halt. According to the presentation, 71% of Thailand's GDP is goods, most of them exported. Tourism is visible, but it does not define the economy.

Locally assembled cars are moderately priced, while imported ones cost several times more — a noticeable expense for anyone relocating.
